I’ve been a fan of Robin McKinley since I was a teenager, and I’ve always liked her fairy tales bltadwin.ruin.  · Deerskin is very dear to me, and part of that is the power of its ending, the acknowledgement that a happy ending doesn’t – can’t – erase everything that came before it. Or the open-ended endings, like Dragonhaven and Sunshine, which stand alone (at least, I’ve never expected sequels to either), but leave you with such a sense of the.  · A Robin McKinley book is never bad. Last year for Bingo I read Deerskin by Robin McKinley. I loved it, especially the way it was written. The choice of words, the use of language, the way reading it felt like stepping into a fairytale like dream. I savoured every word and it really stuck with me. Deerskin reminded me of a dream, one that starts out quiet and detached, grows into a nightmare, and then changes into a somewhat-happy ending. It isn't just a "fairy tale" or an adventure story like The Hero and the Crown.
